Climate change
In north-eastern Nigeria climate change is not a forecast. It is gully erosion taking farmland, a rainy season that arrives late, and a household deciding whether to plant. Our work is adaptation a farming family can afford, and mitigation that holds the ground it is given.

SDG 13: Climate action

What this involves
Three things this area of work actually consists of
Fostering climate resilience by designing adaptation and mitigation strategies, promoting sustainable resource management and reducing environmental risk.
Adaptation strategy
Designing responses with the communities carrying the risk, covering planting calendars, water management and land practice matched to what the season now does.
Mitigation and restoration
Tree planting and land rehabilitation aimed at the specific degradation a location faces, and maintained past the day of the photograph.
Resource management
Supporting local governance of water, grazing and woodland so that a shared resource does not become the next conflict.
